Security Education
Without compromising the needs for confidentiality in the work of a security and intelligence organisation, the ISD has also been working towards greater transparency in the dissemination of information connected to its work. In recent years the ISD has embarked on an extensive security education and outreach programme to sensitise audiences like teachers, government officers, and grassroots leaders to the various security threats the country faces today. To date, the ISD officers have met with and spoken to over 53,000 people in such audiences.
The ISD Heritage Centre was established and officially opened by Minister for Home Affairs Mr Wong Kan Seng on 20 Mar 2002. The ISD Heritage Centre, which took three years to build, showcases the operational history of ISD. The Centre was built as a training facility for ISD officers as well as others in the law enforcement and security community in the public service. There are also plans to allow teachers and civil servants to visit the Centre. Efforts are underway to establish a larger and more accessible centre to be open to the public in the near future. |
