1. Minister for Home
Affairs and Minister for Law, Mr K Shanmugam, is in Saudi Arabia for an
official visit, from 11 – 13 November 2017.
2. On 12 November 2017, Minister Shanmugam met with Saudi Interior Minister
Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif. During their meeting, both Ministers
reaffirmed the warm and close relations between Singapore and Saudi Arabia.
They had a good exchange of views on bilateral security cooperation as well as
the global terrorism threat. They agreed that countries needed to work closely
together to defeat terrorism, and directed their respective security agencies
to work closely to combat terrorism.
3. Minister Shanmugam conveyed Singapore’s strong condemnation of the
recent Houthi missile attack which was directed at Riyadh. Minister Shanmugam
also expressed his hope that steps will be taken by all parties to resolve the
conflicts in the region, so that the suffering of people, caught up in the
differing conflicts, can be brought to an end.
