Appointment of new chairman and member to HTX board of directors

1. Mr Wong Kang Jet was appointed as Chairman of the HTX (Home Team Science and Technology Agency) Board of Directors with effect from 1 June 2026.
2. Mr Wong succeeds Mr Tan Chye Hee, who served as Chairman from 1 October 2025. Under Mr Tan’s leadership, HTX reached significant milestones, most notably the landmark MTX (Milipol TechX Summit) 2026, which drew 24,000 participants from 89 countries across MTX and DEF CON Singapore, to foster collaboration and drive innovation to help keep our communities safe. DEF CON Singapore was the result of a partnership between HTX and DEF CON to bring the international cybersecurity conference to Singapore for the first time, with CSIT as a strategic partner. During Mr Tan’s tenure, HTX also launched Singapore’s first purpose-built developmental testing & evaluation engineering facility for public safety, Garage@HTX, as well as the first Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) lab in eastern Singapore, CBRNE@Changi, to boost air border safety and improve capabilities to deal with future pandemics.
3. Mr Wong is Second Permanent Secretary (Home Affairs); Second Permanent Secretary (Information), Ministry of Digital Development and Information; and Second Permanent Secretary (Cybersecurity), Prime Minister's Office. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of the National Environment Agency, and has also held various appointments in the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Education, and Strategy Group in the Prime Minister's Office. Mr Wong was the Principal Private Secretary to then-Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat from May 2019 to February 2023.
4. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has also appointed Mr Matthew Wee to the HTX Board of Directors with effect from 1 April 2026.
5. Mr Wee succeeded Ms Shie Yong Lee as Commissioner of Prisons on 1 April 2026. He was previously Deputy Commissioner of Prisons (Operations and Rehabilitation), and also served as Chief Executive Officer of Yellow Ribbon Singapore.
