Question:
Mr Yip Hon Weng: To ask the Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs (a) when does Traffic Police conduct audits on speed enforcement cameras after the maintenance by contractors; (b) how are contractors penalised for lapses resulting in err oneous issuing of traffic summons; (c) what avenues are available for the public to dispute speeding summons; and (d) whether camera settings are verified following disputes to prevent recurrence or errors.
Answer:
Mr K Shanmugam, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs:
1. The Traffic Police (TP) conduct monthly audits on all speed enforcement cameras, which includes verifying that the speed settings are accurate.
2. Where there are lapses by contractors, they will be subject to financial penalties or contract termination in accordance with the contractual agreements.
3. Motorists who wish to dispute a speeding offence may submit an appeal to TP via the Singapore Police Force’s e-services. Where the review of appeals suggests anomalies in the speed camera settings, TP will verify the camera settings, and engage the contractor to fix the camera if necessary.
