Cases involving fraudulent or erroneous GIRO transactions
7 April 2026
Question:
Mr Melvin Yong Yik Chye: To ask the Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs in the past three years, how many enforcement actions have been taken against individuals or company directors for fraudulent GIRO transactions.
Answer:
Mr K Shanmugam, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs:
1. The Police do not track the number of cases involving fraudulent GIRO transactions.
2. Erroneous GIRO transactions may sometimes stem from administrative mistakes rather than criminal intent. The Police will assess each reported case based on its facts and circumstances. If a criminal offence is established, the Police will investigate accordingly.
