New SGSecure Roadshow \Our Response Matters. We Make SGSecure\""

1. Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law, and Adviser to Nee Soon GRC Grassroots Organisations, launched the new SGSecure Roadshow at Northpoint City this afternoon. He was accompanied by Grassroots Advisers from Nee Soon GRC – Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang, Er. Dr Lee Bee Wah, and Mr Henry Kwek Hian Chuan.

2. Since its launch in 2016, the SGSecure movement has made significant progress in raising public awareness of the threat posed by terrorism.  The SGSecure movement will now focus on deepening engagement and strengthening community preparedness, through picking up important emergency preparedness skills. Over the next two years, we will bring the new SGSecure Roadshows to major population centres, at locations such as heartland shopping malls and town centres island-wide, in order to reach out to more people.Enhancing Community Outreach Through Interactive Roadshows

Minister Shanmugam and invited guests, including Northpoint City’s management representatives, and volunteers from community and religious organisations in Nee Soon GRC, toured the Roadshow, which features a new multi-sensorial simulated terror attack experience, designed to test visitors’ responses when caught in an emergency situation, giving them a first-hand experience of applying their first aid skills.

4. Other highlights of the new Roadshows include a section featuring a car modified to contain tell-tale signs of a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, where visitors can learn how to detect such threats. The Roadshows will also feature booths where community volunteers interact directly with visitors, to inspire more to come forward and be part of the SGSecure movement. These volunteers will share with visitors how they have made SGSecure a part of their lives – including being more alert to suspicious behaviour and items, and to encourage their family, friends and colleagues to be trained in life-saving skills.Strengthening Community and Corporate Partnerships

5. Minister Shanmugam and invited guests also witnessed a ‘live’ exercise, which simulated a coordinated response by stakeholders to a terror attack within the mall. The exercise was conducted by officers from the Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Civil Defence Force, and involved tenants and staff of Northpoint City.

6. Private organisations play an important role in strengthening our collective preparedness as a society. To this end, Northpoint City has been working closely with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to engage its tenants as part of the SGSecure@Workplaces programme to enhance their workforce preparedness. This includes working with anchor tenants such as Cold Storage and NTUC Fairprice, to coordinate their emergency response plans and enhance their security measures through a series of table-top exercises and security drills.Lead Agency and Partners

7. The SGSecure Roadshow is organised by MHA with the support of the People’s Association, MOM, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, local Grassroots Organisations, community and religious organisations and corporate partners.
