Official visit to the People’s Republic of China by Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs

1. Coordinating Minister for National Security (“CMNS”) and Minister for Home Affairs Mr K Shanmugam made an official visit to China from 31 January to 3 February 2026.
2. In Beijing, CMNS met with Secretary of the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission Chen Wenqing, and Chinese State Councillor and Minister of Public Security Wang Xiaohong.
3. Minister Shanmugam reaffirmed the good working relationship between agencies with Minister Wang, and discussed ways to deepen law enforcement cooperation in the areas of combatting scams and countering drug trafficking. They also agreed to step up regular exchanges to further strengthen relations.
4. With Secretary Chen, Minister discussed strengthening cooperation in law enforcement, as well as in legal and judicial fields. Minister also looked forward to the successful convening of the 5th Singapore-China Social Governance Forum (“Forum”) later this year. Secretary Chen is the Chinese co-chair of the Forum, which is a platform where both countries share views and experiences on common issues that our societies face.
5. This visit builds on the “All-Round High-Quality Future-Oriented Partnership” between Singapore and China, which was upgraded in 2023 to advance our bilateral relations, mutual trust and collaboration across security and other domains between both countries.
