Outcome of EASE trial on Bukit Timah Expressway, timeline for enforcement and deployment on other expressways
3 November 2026
Question:
Mr Alex Yeo: To ask the Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs regarding the trial of Expressway Average Speed Enforcement System (EASE) on the Bukit Timah Expressway (a) what the trial has shown about vehicle speeds and prevalence of vehicles exceeding speed limit; (b) when EASE is expected to become operational for enforcement; and (c) what factors, including speeding and accident data, will determine whether and where EASE should be deployed on other expressways.
Answer:
Mr K Shanmugam, Senior Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs:
1. As the trial of the Expressway Average Speed Enforcement System (EASE) only commenced in August 2026, it would be premature to draw any conclusions at this stage.
2. The operationalisation of EASE for enforcement will depend on the outcomes of the ongoing trial. Should the trial be successful, the Traffic Police (TP) will consider factors including violation and accident patterns, and the terrain feasibility, when deciding where to deploy EASE.
