What is the Role of CDLH Volunteers?
CDLH volunteers serve as Community First Responders, providing critical assistance in emergencies before SCDF arrives. You will also take on the role of an Emergency Preparedness Ambassador, sharing essential lifesaving skills with peers and the wider community.
What Training Will You Receive?
All volunteers must complete the Responders Plus Programme, which equips you with lifesaving skills and knowledge to be a Community First Responder. The programme is in two-parts:
1) A 45-minute online self-directed course covering essential lifesaving skills, and;
2) A four-hour hands-on session to practise and hone your lifesaving skills.
No prior lifesaving skill is necessary. You will only need a willingness to learn and passion to contribute.
Why Join CDLH?
Be a Community First Responder (CFR) – CFRs can make a difference between life and death. Timely intervention bridges the critical interval between the onset of the incident and SCDF’s arrival on-scene.
Strengthen your school’s emergency preparedness – Lead the way as an Emergency Preparedness Ambassador, sharing life-saving skills and building a safer school community.
Lead with impact, serve with purpose – Develop leadership qualities and gain valuable experience in crisis management, community engagement and people management.
How Do You Sign Up?

FAQs
Who can join the CDLH Club?
The club is open to all students currently enrolled in tertiary institutions, who are interested in gaining lifesaving skills and contributing positively on their campus and community.
Can I volunteer if I do not have emergency preparedness experience?
No prior experience is required. We welcome students who are eager to learn and passionate about serving the community.
What additional responsibilities do CDLH members have?
As an Emergency Preparedness Ambassador on campus, you may be invited to participate in SCDF-led programmes, including engagements at pre-schools and primary schools. These events provide opportunities to represent the club, engage the public, and help raise awareness about emergency preparedness in the community.
Volunteering with the NUS Civil Defence Lionhearter Club has inculcated in me the spirit of care and preparedness. It taught me that preparedness is not just a technical skill but a culture we collectively nurture.— Wang Fan, Stephen, CDLH from NUS

With every volunteering experience as a Civil Defence Lionhearter member, I found myself not only helping others but also growing in empathy and gratitude. I have realised that volunteering is not just about giving but also learning, feeling and connecting with people. I am inspired to do more.— Siti Naqiyah Binte Riszuwan, CDLH from Nanyang Polytechnic
