Answer:
Mr K Shanmugam, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs:
1. In the first half of 2025, the Traffic Police (TP) dealt with about 730 cases of jaywalking, a 4% increase compared to the same period last year. There were nine fatal accidents involving pedestrians who jaywalked in the first half of 2025, compared to seven in the same period last year. Between January 2024 and September 2025, TP conducted 25 elderly-focused road safety events and about 640 pedestrian-related ones, reaching more than 100,000 people. These outreach events emphasise the importance of using designated crossing points, staying alert to traffic conditions, and avoiding distractions such as mobile devices while crossing the road.
