Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Cyclists Booked for Riding on Roads Without Helmets, by Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law

Mr Dennis Tan Lip Fong: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs how many cyclists have been booked for riding on roads without helmets since new regulations requiring cyclists to use helmets when riding on roads took effect from 1 February 2019.

 

Answer:


    1. Since 1 Feb 2019, pedal cyclists are required to use helmets when riding on roads. Cyclists using power-assisted bicycles (PABs) have been required to do so since 1 Jan 2005.

     

    2. Between 1 Feb 2019 and 31 Dec 2019, Traffic Police (TP) enforced against 109 cases of pedal cyclists and 25 cases of PAB cyclists who failed to wear helmets when riding on the roads.
