Question:

Assoc Prof Jamus Jerome Lim:
To ask the Minister for Transport for the years 2010, 2015 and 2020 to 2022 (to date), what is the average number of fines that are issued each year for the failure to wear seat belts in the (i) front seat and (ii) rear passenger seats of motor vehicles.

Answer:

Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:

1.   For 2010, 2015, and 2020 to 2022 (until 30 September 2022), there was an average of about 2,639 fines (composition sums offered by the Traffic Police, and fines imposed by the Court) issued per year for the offence of failing to wear seat belts. We do not track if the persons were seated at the front or the rear of the vehicle.
