Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on Number of Long-Term Visit Pass Applications Received for Family Members to Assist with Residents’ Childcare or Other Care Responsibilities in the Last Five Years

Published: 07 February 2023

Question:

Ms He Ting Ru: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs in each of the last five years (a) how many Long-Term Visit Pass applications are received for family members to assist with residents’ childcare or other care responsibilities; and (b) how many of such applications are successful.

Answer:

Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:

1.   The types of foreigners that can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP) can be found on the website of the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). These include spouses, unmarried minor children, and parents of Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents.

2.   While ICA may ask questions about the applicant’s caregiving arrangements to make a holistic assessment of an application, ICA does not actively track the number of LTVP applications that are for the purposes of providing childcare or other care responsibilities.
