Written Reply to Parliamentary Question on the Number of Enforcement Raids Conducted by the Police Against Massage Establishments and Public Entertainment and Nightlife Outlets Since the Detection of the KTV COVID-19 Cluster in July 2021

Question:

Mr Melvin Yong Yik Chye: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs (a) what is the number of enforcement raids conducted by the police against massage establishments and public entertainment and nightlife outlets since the detection of the KTV COVID-19 cluster in July 2021; (b) how many persons have been arrested as a result of these raids; and (c) of those arrested, how many are repeat offenders.


Answer:

Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Law:

1.   Between 11 July and 20 October 2021, the Police conducted enforcement checks against 495 licensed and unlicensed massage establishments, as well as 293 licensed and unlicensed public entertainment outlets.

2.   In total, 196 persons were arrested for offences under laws such as the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act, the Women’s Charter, the Public Entertainments Act, and the Liquor Control (Supply and Consumption) Act. Of those arrested, 14 were repeat offenders.
