Published: 19 August 2023

1. The Singapore Police Force Scholarship and Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Scholarships Award Ceremony 2023 was held at the Istana on Friday, 18 August 2023. Mr K Shanmugam, Minister for Home Affairs & for Law, was the Guest-of-Honour.

2. MHA offers a range of scholarships, comprising the Singapore Police Force Scholarship, the MHA Uniformed Scholarship, the MHA Civilian Scholarship, and the HTX Scholarship. The scholarships are conferred on outstanding individuals who share the Home Team’s values of Honour and Unity, and are passionate about our mission to keep Singapore safe and secure. MHA Scholars will pursue studies in a range of disciplines at prestigious universities locally or overseas, and will be supported in their personal and professional growth.

3. The Singapore Police Force Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships awarded by the Public Service Commission. This year, the Singapore Police Force Scholarship was awarded to Chua Jia Zhi Edison, and Chen Hong Wen. Upon completion of their studies, they will undergo structured residential training at the Police Training Command that includes police defence tactics, criminal investigation, physical training, as well as leadership development. Subsequently, they will be posted to the Police Divisions to assume operational and command appointments, as part of their development to be future leaders of the Force.

4. At the ceremony, it was announced that from 2024, mid-term scholarships would be introduced for the Singapore Police Force Scholarship, and the Singapore Merit Scholarship for MHA. This will enable the Home Team to attract promising individuals who, whilst undergoing their undergraduate studies, become clearer on their career preference, and develop aspirations to join the Home Team.

5. This year, the HTX Scholarship [formerly known as the MHA Civilian Scholarship (Science & Technology)] was presented for the first time. The HTX Scholarship seeks to develop young STEM talent to enable them to pursue a meaningful career harnessing science and technology to enhance the Home Team’s capabilities. Nine such scholarships were awarded to aspiring scientists and engineers.

6. In total, MHA awarded 34 scholarships this year. More information on the various categories of the MHA Scholarships, and a list of scholarship recipients for 2023 can be found in the Annex
