The Singapore Prison Service (SPS) recognises that incarceration affects not only the inamtes, but also their families. Community support is thus vital to help strengthen these families, so they can better support the inmates' rehabilitation and reintegration.
The Yellow Ribbon Community Project (YRCP) was launched by SPS in 2010 and managed by Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) since 2015. Under the YRCP, trained volunteers from the various grassroots divisions reach out to inmates' families by visiting them to check in on their well-being, provide community support and refer them to community sources of assistance.
These efforts, initiatied by members of the public, help stabilise families who are affected by their loved ones' incarceration, allowing inmates to focus on their rehabilitation in prison, and improve reintegration outcomes by strengthening family support for the inmates.

We are looking for passionate individuals who are at least 21 years old and willing to befriend families impacted by incarceration.
Volunteers will engage family members of newly admitted inmates in a timely manner through phone calls and home visits.
Where applicable, volunteers will help to link up families with helping agencies (e.g. Family Service Centres, Social Service Organisation, or other resources in the grassroot divisions) for further assistance.
Regular engagements while journeying with the family (e.g. once a month) as a form of prosocial support. The modality of the engagement (e.g. phone calls, home visits or at grassroots/community events) can be decided between the volunteer and/or the family.
As a new volunteer, you will undergo onboarding training to familiarise yourself with the do’s and don't’s during your volunteering stint.
You will also be equipped with befriending skills and knowledge to conduct effective and purposeful sessions with the families assigned to you.
You can look forward to attending developmental courses in corrections. These training opportunities will allow you to expand and enhance skillsets in volunteering and working with different profiles / population.
As a Home Team volunteer, you will be trained and supported. Our philosophy of involvement includes giving you the necessary orientation, ample opportunities for personal development, as well as awards and recognition for good service.
In appreciation of your contribution to supporting families impacted by incarceration, volunteers are invited to attend an annual awards and appreciation luncheon at the end of each year. During this appreciation event, we also recognise the contributions of our volunteers with the Long Service awards.
