Question:


Mr Louis Ng Kok Kwang: To ask the Minister for Home Affairs for each year in the past 10 years, what is the number and percentage of infants and toddlers injured in motor accidents who were not secured in child seats.

 

Answer:

 

1. Traffic Police does not have the breakdown of data for the past ten years.

 

2. For 2017 and 2018, an average of 53 infants and toddlers of age 3 years and below each year were injured in accidents while in motor vehicles.

 

a) 27% of the infants and toddlers were in taxis or public buses, for which the use of child seats is not required.

 

b) 15% of them were not in child seats.

 

c) 7% of them were in child seats.

 

d) For the remaining 51%, Traffic Police’s records did not track whether they were in child seats.
