Home Team Contingent Concludes Mission in Nepal

Published: 07 May 2015

1. In accordance with the guidance from the Nepalese government, the Home Team contingent has concluded its mission in Nepal. The 126-strong contingent comprising Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force (SPF) officers (including Gurkha officers) is currently in Kathmandu, and is scheduled to return to Singapore by the end of the week.

2. In the last 10 days, the Home Team contingent worked with the Nepalese authorities and other international assistance teams to conduct search and rescue operations, rendered medical assistance and provided humanitarian aid.

3. Our officers initially conducted search and rescue operations in Kathmandu. Subsequently, in the recovery phase, our officers provided medical assistance in Gorkha. The contingent also assisted in the heli-evacuation of several casualties and conducted humanitarian operations in Gorkha, which was assessed to be in urgent need of assistance given its proximity to the earthquake’s epicentre.

4. The contingent has transferred its remaining stock of medical supplies, including dressings, bandages and medicines, to the Singapore Red Cross team in Nepal. Its humanitarian aid supplies have also been transferred to local networks to distribute to Nepalese people in need.
