Home Team to Progressively Resume Basic Training for Full-Time National Servicemen from 26 May

Published: 19 May 2020

  1. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) will progressively resume basic training for two batches of full-time national servicemen (NSF) whose training was suspended during the circuit breaker period. This is necessary to ensure the continued development of commanders and NSFs for deployment to frontline units in SPF and SCDF.

  2. About 1,700 SPF and SCDF trainees in total will be notified of their reporting dates, which are between 26 May and 8 June 2020. The reporting dates are staggered to facilitate the implementation of safe distancing measures.

  3. Strict health and safety measures will be implemented during training.  For example, all trainees and instructors will undergo health screening when they report back to their respective training institutions. Those who exhibit respiratory infection symptoms will be immediately separated from the others and tested for COVID-19.  Existing precautionary measures, such as twice-daily temperature taking, staggered meal times, the donning of masks[1] and frequent cleaning of training equipment and common areas, will continue to be enforced.  Training will also be adjusted so that trainees are trained in smaller groups.

  4. MHA remains committed to the safety and security of Singapore while ensuring the health and wellbeing of all Home Team officers.

[1] Trainees are required to put on masks at all times, except during meal times and strenuous activities for e.g. physical training.
