Rejection of Application by Mr Jolovan Wham to Vary or Cancel Correction Direction Under the Protection From Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act 2019

1.   The Minister for Home Affairs has rejected an application (the “Application”) by Mr Jolovan Wham to vary or cancel the Correction Direction issued to him on 8 October 2021, pursuant to section 11 of the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act 2019 (the “POFMA”).

2.   On 8 October 2021, a Correction Direction was issued to Mr Jolovan Wham, for a Tweet dated 6 October 2021 which communicates the falsehood that the Minister for Home Affairs adopts the view that the rule of law does not operate anywhere in the real world, including in Singapore. Jolovan Wham was required to publish a correction notice on his online platform.

3.   The conditions for issuing the Correction Direction are satisfied, and the Application did not disclose any grounds to the contrary. After having carefully considered the Application, the Minister for Home Affairs has decided to reject it. Mr Jolovan Wham has been notified of the rejection.
