The Home Team Celebrates SG50

Published: 28 May 2015

1. The Home Team (HT) celebrates 50 years of nation building by honouring our HT Pioneers who have dedicated their lives to build a strong foundation for a safe and secure Singapore. Our Pioneers played critical roles in major safety and security incidents and in building up the modern HT. Some continue to serve with the HT even after retirement as volunteers. The legacy of our Pioneers inspires the HT as we plan for and prepare to deal with future challenges.

2. Over 2,000 HT Pioneers will be honoured in a series of tribute events and Appreciation Gala Dinners organised by the HT from May to December this year. Each Pioneer will receive a specially-commissioned HT SG50 Commemorative Medallion.

3. The "Tribute to Home Team Pioneers" event which took place at the Home Team Academy features a 'Heroes for Life" exhibition cum seminar which runs from 28 to 30 May 2015. Guest-of-Honour, Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs presented the HT SG50 Commemorative Medallions to about 150 Pioneers who were present at this event.

4. The "Heroes for Life" exhibition showcases key milestones in the HT's history, as well as photos and stories of several HT Pioneers. It includes a "Wall of Honour", dedicated to HT officers who died while on duty as well as an outdoor section showcasing current and past HT vehicles. The exhibition will be open to the public at the National Library in September 2015 and at the Home Team Festival in November 2015.

5. Concurrently, a HT Operations-themed Seminar on the development of HT operational policies and capabilities covering areas such as the evolution of the HT concept, community partnership and the future of the HT, will be held from 28 May 2015 to 30 May 2015. MHA hopes to inspire and imbue a greater sense of mission and history in our HT officers, our SPF and SCDF NSFs, our volunteers, and NPCC and NCDCC student leaders and draw lessons for the future through the reflections of and discussion with the speakers.
